How We Help Parents

At CHANCE, we know that supporting parents of children with cancer is an important part of providing care for children’s cancer. Being told your child has cancer flips your life upside down. Suddenly, all your hopes and plans for your family are put on hold. Spending time together increasingly takes place inside doctor’s offices and hospitals. It’s a difficult time.

Everything can become overwhelming very quickly. In the first couple of weeks and months after diagnosis, you will be given lots of information from numerous people, and you will have more questions than you can keep up with. But, there is support available.

At CHANCE, we know how to help parents of a child with cancer, we have plenty of experience supporting them emotionally and financially.

Your feelings as a parent at this time will be mixed and confusing. We can help provide support, talk through your emotions, and guide you through this difficult time.

CHANCE is the first organization in Lebanon to be a member of CCI, Childhood Cancer International, a worldwide network of childhood cancer parent organizations. Along with CCI, we can provide parents with the best quality care and support network possible. The focus of the CCI is to cooperate with parents and share vital information and experiences to help each other through the challenges of cancer.

We’ve created a number of resources for parents of children with cancer in Lebanon to help you through this difficult time. You can find and download these below.

MEDICAL BOOKLETS PUBLISHED BY CHANCE

Each year, CHANCE creates a booklet about a specific type of cancer to give the possibility to the community to know more about this type of cancer and the easy ways and habits that can be adopted to promote a healthier lifestyle.

Other Resources

CHANCE works with Childhood Cancer International (CCI). We adhere to the 15 standards of psychosocial care set out by the CCI to provide children with the best care possible. These standards result from three years of evidence-based psychosocial studies supported by the Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation and undertaken by 85 healthcare professionals from 44 institutions.

The 15 standards are the largest and most comprehensive compilation of psychosocial standards to date. They include over 1200 journal articles that were reviewed and appraised independently. The evidence of these studies gives us a complete picture of what children with cancer and their families require to support their psychological needs from diagnosis to recovery to end of life.

Each of the 15 standards has its own dedicated article, which you can download with this link. You can also find a discussion about the importance of psychological support for children with cancer and their families here.
